If you’re like many people, the start of the workweek gives you a case of the Mondays. You’ve been feeling this way for a while now and you’re ready to do something about it.

The start of a new week should be refreshing as it’s filled with ample opportunities for success. It’s time to change your way of thinking so you can realize your full potential each week. Energize your Mondays by taking these five steps.

Use the Weekend to Unwind

The weekend is your time to relax and recharge. Sure, you might occasionally need to check your work email or take a business call but this shouldn’t be the norm. Put your work devices away and focus on your personal life. If necessary, have a conversation with your boss and/or colleagues to let them know you’ll be unreachable on weekends. This will allow you to feel refreshed on Monday so you’re rejuvenated and ready to take on the week ahead.

Start Preparing on Sunday

It’s hard to get Monday off to a strong start without a little advance planning. Set yourself up for success by taking steps like meal prepping for the week, doing laundry, and gathering everything you need to take to the office in the morning — if you’re not working remotely. It’s also important to go to bed early on Sunday night so you can wake up feeling rested on Monday morning.

Set New Goals

Get inspired to achieve great things by creating a new set of goals each Monday morning. This will give you a renewed sense of purpose so your week doesn’t feel so monotonous. Having exciting objectives to work toward will inspire you to get out of your Monday rut and get to work. After all, the last thing you want is to fall short of the goals you set for yourself.

Plan Things to Look Forward to

All work and no play makes for a boring week. If you have nothing to look forward to until Friday night, it’s no wonder you’re not into Mondays. Plan something you enjoy every day so you have something to get excited about. This doesn’t have to be anything major as long as it makes you happy — i.e., takeout from your favorite restaurant, a long run, or a movie night.

Get to the Root of the Problem

If, after trying your best, you still dread Mondays, it’s time to dig a little deeper. It’s possible the job that once fulfilled you is no longer the right fit. Be honest with yourself because you’re far too talented to stay in a job that doesn’t make you happy. Leaving might be a difficult decision but a new job might be the only way to reignite your passion for the work.
