The new year has arrived, and it’s filled with promise. You’re ready to hit the ground running, but you still need to set goals to help you get on track.

While you’re not sure what specific objectives you want to strive for, you do want to challenge yourself in several different areas. This involves both increasing your expertise in your field and becoming a stronger leader. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

Five Goals to Help You Learn and Grow in 2023

Learn a New Skill

It might sound simple, but as a busy manager, you know how hard it can be to commit to learning something new. Choose a new skill you’ve been wanting to learn that will boost your career and/or allow you to do your job even better. Investing in yourself is a commitment you won’t regret.

Make New Connections

Whether your professional network is big or small, there’s always room for new contacts. It might sound cliché, but your connections can get you far in the business world. Whether you’re looking to make a career move — now or in the distant future — or want to create a strategic partnership with a new company that you know can make all the difference.

Increase Your Productivity

If you constantly feel like you don’t have enough hours in the day, you might be able to do something about that. Take a hard look at how you currently spend your time and be willing to make some serious changes. This might involve only checking email a few times per day or assigning a time limit to each task on your plate at the beginning of the day.

Say ‘Yes’ More

It’s easy to decline invitations to activities that fall outside of your comfort zone, but doing so inhibits your growth. Saying “yes” to everything from innovative project ideas from colleagues to professional development opportunities will expand your horizons. Sometimes you’ll find whatever you tried wasn’t for you, but other initiatives can change your life for the better.

Focus More on Mentoring

You know mentoring is a great way to learn and share your knowledge with others, but as of yet, it hasn’t been a priority. Whether you want to be a mentor, find a mentor, or both, make 2023 the year you finally take this leap. This is a career move you won’t regret, and that will broaden your horizons in several different directions.
